Deadheading minimization of the massive transportation system in the city of Cali Colombia

Abstract: A model is presented for optimizing the bus allocation to depots or workshop yards (WY), minimizing the total daily fuel consumption of the system during empty runs (non-commercial), and considering the different types of buses, the WY capacities, the demand, and respecting the participation of each WY in the operation. The model is tested in a case study located in Cali and its results reveal significant cost savings opportunities by means of different strategies.
