Aan-en inleidingIk kan het niet vaak genoeg herhalen: ons doel is niet om de resultaten van RCT's te verguizen, maar om erop te wijzen dat ze wel eens niet zo onherroepelijk zouden kunnen zijn als hun pleitbezorgers claimen.Westen, Novotny en Thompson-Brenner (2005, p. (2005), die het op zijn beurt -naar eigen zeggen -van iemand anders heeft gejat.1 Dat wil zeggen: de streepjes stonden in de brief echt op de verkeerde plaats. 2 Op mijn kritische e-mail aan de VGCt kreeg ik van de (toenmalige) directeur het volgende antwoord: 'De VGCt beweert natuurlijk niet dat de cognitieve gedragstherapie een panacee is voor alles. Maar kennelijk kan die boodschap wel gelezen worden in onze teksten. Wat we wel staande kunnen en willen houden is dat CGT aantoonbaar effectief is voor allerlei psychische aandoeningen en als (toegevoegde) behandeling bij allerlei medische aandoeningen ofwel, in de woorden van voorzitter Cas Schaap, voor het hele handboek psychopathologie en het handboek medische psychologie. Daarmee zegt de VGCt dan niets over andere vormen van psychotherapie die effectief (zouden kunnen) zijn. Wij zullen onze teksten bijstellen. ' Het was natuurlijk sportief dat zij na e´e´n briefje van mij hun teksten al wilden corrigeren. Minder geruststellend was het citaat van de nieuwe voorzitter van de VGCt, dat CGT aantoonbaar effectief is 'voor het hele handboek psychopathologie en het handboek medische psychologie'.
