“…The cause of aphasic status epilepticus in the previously published reports included stroke, multiple sclerosis or other diseases. Among the 23 cases, 6 cases were Broca's aphasia ( 4 , 6 10 ), 7 were Wernicke's aphasia ( 9 , 11 16 ) and 10 cases were global aphasia ( 5 , 17 25 ). The presence of prior seizures was reported in 5/23 cases.…”

“…Without EEG, the diagnosis of epileptic aphasia is often missed, and the seizures can continue untreated for several more days, risking an aggravation of the ischemic deficit [4]. Isolated ASE without previous epilepsy, or cerebral lesions, is even rarer, especially due to NKH [2]. We present a rare case of NKH-related isolated ASE, successfully treated by phenytoin and good blood sugar control by insulin therapy.…”

“…Isolated aphasic status epilepticus (ASE) is also a similar condition, albeit rare. Although aphasia during epileptic seizures with epileptic aphasia is not rare, isolated epileptic aphasia without other clinical seizure activity is rarer [2]. While hypoglycemia-induced seizures, which are usually generalized, have been extensively described in the literature, non-ketotic hyperglycemia (NKH) is associated with simple partial seizure, partial motor status, rarely complex partial seizure, or even with an isolated aphasic seizure without a localized lesion [3].…”

“…In previous literature, different cases of focal status epilepticus characterized by the acute onset of aphasia were described. In those contexts, routine EEG were not always conclusive for SE (Flügel et al, 2015) even though itctal EEG patterns have been reported (Patil and Oware, 2012). LPDs have been sometimes described but they have never been marked as ictal pattern even though, in some cases, a clear electro-clinical correlation was described with patient’s good clinical response to the anti-seizure therapy (Quintas et al, 2018).…”
