DC-link voltage ripple reduction for a transformerless modular wind generator system

Abstract: An important issue in the single phase converter system is to deal with the pulsating power which is the twice of the fundamental frequency. The pulsating power may shorten the lifetime of the dc-link capacitor and affect the system control performance. This paper has presented some methods to reduce the dc-link voltage ripple caused by the pulsating power in a modular converter for a multi-coil direct-drive permanent magnet wind generator system. At the generator side, the generator coils with 90 degree phase… Show more

“…In [18] authors describe the hybrid one-cycle control strategy for electrolytic capacitor-less second harmonic compensator with excellent compensation performance achieved by a proper charging and discharging mode detection. The ripple reduction effect of DC-link voltage was depicted in [19], wherein a transformer-less modular generator system operates with proposed controller. The second harmonic current reduction methods are investigated even in kilowatt-scale converters.…”

“…The dc-link voltage (or current) ripple reduction methods have been proposed for some systems and applications; for example, [21] proposed a dc-link ripple current reduction for paralleled three-phase voltage-source converter (VSC) with interleaving (this method requires two VSCs connected in paralleled), [22] proposed a dc-link voltage ripple reduction for a transformerless modular wind generator system, and [23] proposed a dc-link voltage ripple minimization method for a modular VSC for HVDC power transmission. This paper presents a dc-link voltage ripple reduction in each cell of the three-phase cascaded H-bridge multilevel PV system by injecting the third-harmonic zero-sequence voltage to improve the MPPT efficiency.…”

“…This pulsating component of power is very clearly seen in a single phase inverter system compared to three phase inverter system [7]. In general the larger capacitors in use are electrolytic capacitors which are bulky and less reliable, thereby reducing the reliability of the entire system.…”
