DataTri, a database of American triatomine species occurrence

Abstract: Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas disease, is transmitted to mammals - including humans - by insect vectors of the subfamily Triatominae. We present the results of a compilation of triatomine occurrence and complementary ecological data that represents the most complete, integrated and updated database (DataTri) available on triatomine species at a continental scale. This database was assembled by collecting the records of triatomine species published from 1904 to 2017, spanning all American cou… Show more

“…Rhodnius occurrences (i.e. locations were the species were found) were obtained from “DataTri”, a database of American triatomine species occurrences [68]. Palm tree occurrences were obtained from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF; downloaded in October 2018) using the “gbif” function of the “dismo” R package [69].…”

“…Studies have started to investigate the impact of resistance in certain situations 3,4 but a full understanding of impact requires comprehensive quantification of resistance. To quantify the factors that influence vector control, data from vector populations are required and a number of vector databases are already available for species distributions, infection prevalence, and bionomic parameters [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12] . A database for insecticide resistance in malaria vectors, that allows users to download analysis-ready datasets, is vital so that the impact of levels of resistance found in wild populations on malaria transmission can be assessed.…”

“…Of these, 53 municipalities have reported presence of palm-infesting triatomines (e.g. R. pallescens, R. prolixus and Triatoma dimidiata [12][13][14][15]) and Chagas disease cases (source: SIVIGILA); also, oil palm cultivated area in these municipalities has increased steadily, with a growth of 116% from 2007 to 2016 [9].…”
