Data Sources

Abstract: This chapter is devoted to the overview of the data fundamentals as regards data models and sources accompanied by geomatics, remote sensing, and economy. Description of such data sources is complemented with the basics from respective disciplines to provide a thematic context to the reader. The chapter starts with a summary of the most commonly used data models, starting with tabular and attribute formats. It is then followed by the spatial data models, including vector and raster data core principles. Since … Show more

“…The data source is the subject from which the data is taken or obtained. (Pászto et al, 2019) This paper attempts to extract data according to the needs of the main source, namely women who have children and care for the elderly as research subjects. Apart from that, the data obtained does not come from primary sources to support existing primary data, for example by interviewing parties who know information about the research subject, then the researcher also takes related references to further enrich, clarify and strengthen the primary data.…”

“…Seznámení se s formátem a obsahem metadat je pro studenty dobrým a inspirativním výukovým příkladem předávání metadat k samotným datům. Další informace o databázi Eurostat a dalších datových zdrojích užitečných z pohledu prostorových dat EU lze nalézt v kapitole knihy Spationomy (Pászto, Redecker, et al, 2020).…”

“…Geo-spatial data is composed of descriptive/thematic content (attributes characterizing a spatial entity) and spatial components (e.g., coordinates/coordinate system and geometry). Due to their source and nature, one can distinguish two different data models representing objects of the real world: raster data and vector data (Pászto et al 2020 ; Juergens 2020 ). While raster data represent real-world objects by a number of raster cells with a certain cell size, vector data represent the same objects by points, lines or polygons.…”
