“…However, several limitations should be noted. Drug use in hospitals and nursing homes is not registered at an individual level in NorPD, 43 meaning that if many participants in HUNT3 received hypnotics only as patients in a clinical setting, our estimates may be too low. We had data from NorPD only 2 to 4 years before participation in HUNT3 (2006)(2007)(2008); thus, we were not able to take prescriptions of drugs used for sleep problems in earlier life into account.…”

However, this seems unlikely as sales data indicate that the use of OTC analgesics has been fairly stable across the study period [ 44 ]. The increase in use of prescription paracetamol may to some degree result from an intentional shift from prescription of NSAIDs and analgesics with higher potential for misuse, to paracetamol [ 18 ].…”

“…Two population-based registers with nationwide coverage were used: the Norwegian Primary Care Registry (KUHR) and the Norwegian Prescription Database (NorPD) [ 24 ]. The KUHR contains diagnoses codes (International Classification of Primary Care [ICPC]-2, International Classification of Diseases [ICD]-10) and claim codes from all primary care consultations since 2006, as well as patient demographics.…”
