Data on identification of primary and secondary metabolites in aqueous extract of Verbascum betonicifolium

Abstract: Tentative identification of primary and secondary metabolites in aqueous extracts from aerial parts of Verbascum betonicifolium Kuntze was done. This plant belongs to the Scrophulariaceae family and is used for several treatments in folk medicine. One of the processes commonly used to prepare this plant for consumption is boiling with water during approximately 20 minutes, that is, a decoction process. After filtration, this decoction was analysed in search for bioactive metabolites. The… Show more

“…Compound 4 was tentatively assigned to ethyl citrate, which gave a [M – H] − ion at m/z 219 with fragment ion at m/z 111 in the MS/MS experiment caused by the loss of ethyl acetyl and two water groups ( 65 ). Compound 30 was identified as phytuberin, a sesquiterpenoid found in other Solanaceae species ( 77 ), which showed a [M – H] − ion at m/z 293 in the ESI-MS mode and daughter MS/MS ions at m/z 236, 221, and 192, indicating the losses of acetate, acetate, and CH 3 , and isopropyl acetate groups, respectively, as described by Serralheiro et al ( 75 ). Methyl esters of CGAs and methyl quinates were also found in the T33 extract.…”

“…Similar procedures were followed for preparing the 10% and 40% extracts. The obtained extracts were then transferred into 50-milliliter Falcon tubes and used for administration to the rats (33)(34)(35).…”
