Data of remote sensing and GIS - to demarcate the potential sector of groundwater in Debre Berhan, Amhara region, Ethiopia

Abstract: The present research datasets provide a different potential sector of groundwater accessibility in Debre Berhan, Amhara region represented by GIS and remote sensing techniques. Groundwater potential factors such as geology, slope, geomorphology, landuse/landcover, drainage density, and lineament density thematic layers were prepared from the SRTM 30m and LANDSAT multispectral satellite data. Weightage and scores were assigned to all thematic layers based on their groundwater holding capacity. The Inverse Dista… Show more

“…Levels of suitability were decided and supported by data collected from the assorted scientific literature (Aden, 2016; Bagyaraj et al, 2019; Ebistu and Minale, 2013; Elahi and Samadyar, 2014; Kenate, 2017; Singh, 2019; Sisay et al, 2020; Wachira et al, 2014). Thus, all the factors were classified into four classes (highly suitable, moderately suitable, less suitable and unsuitable) with values ranging from 1 to 4.…”

“…Selecting appropriate sites and managing solid waste dumping in countries like Ethiopia with limited financial resources and rapid increase in rate are more severe. In many other developing countries, the bulk of inhabitants in most towns of Ethiopia often use unsafe solid waste disposal practices, such as open dumping, burning and burying (Berisa and Birhanu, 2015; Gudeta, 2010; Bagyaraj et al, 2019; Issa and Al Shehhi et al, 2012).…”

“…For the groundwater slope gradient is also one of the important parameters in favor of water infiltration (Magesh et al, 2012). Areas with low slopes have low surface runoff & high infiltration rates (Bagyaraj et al, 2019). On the other hand, steep slopes favor rapid discharge of rainwater through runoff and drainage (Mogaji et al, 2015).…”

“…It can be an identical coordinate extent or a projection defined for all the maps. Nevertheless, the integration of various tools for complex mapping presents a new cartographic functionality aimed to improve the existing GIS approaches through more flexible mapping techniques (Desalegn & Mulu, 2021;Bagyaraj et al, 2019;Klaučo et al, 2013aKlaučo et al, , 2013bAhmad et al, 2020).…”
