Modern supply chains have evolved into highly complex value networks and turned into a vital source of competitive advantage. However, it has become increasingly challenging to verify the source of raw materials and maintain visibility of products and merchandise while they are moving through the value chain network. The application of the Internet of Things (IoT) can help companies to observe, track, and monitor products, activities, and processes within their respective value chain networks. Other applications of IoT include product monitoring to optimize operations in warehousing‚ manufacturing, and transportation. In combination with IoT, Blockchain technology can enable a broad range of different application scenarios to enhance value chain transparency and to increase B2B trust. When combined, IoT and Blockchain technology have the potential to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of modern supply chains. The contribution of this paper is twofold. First, we illustrate how the deployment of Blockchain technology in combination with IoT infrastructure can streamline and benefit modern supply chains and enhance value chain networks. Second, we derive six research propositions outlining how Blockchain technology can impact key features of the IoT (i.e., scalability, security, immutability and auditing, information flows, traceability and interoperability, quality) and thus lay the foundation for future research projects.

The Internet of Things (IoT) concept has attracted a lot of attention from the research and innovation community for a number of years already. One of the key drivers for this hype towards the IoT is its applicability to a plethora of different application domains. However, infrastructures enabling experimental assessment of IoT solutions are scarce. Being able to test and assess the behavior and the performance of any piece of technology (i.e., protocol, algorithm, application, service, etc.) under real-world circumstances is of utmost importance to increase the acceptance and reduce the time to market of these innovative developments. This paper describes the federation of eleven IoT deployments from heterogeneous application domains (e.g., smart cities, maritime, smart building, crowd-sensing, smart grid, etc.) with over 10,000 IoT devices overall which produce hundreds of thousands of observations per day. The paper summarizes the resources that are made available through a cloud-based platform. The main contributions from this paper are twofold. In the one hand, the insightful summary of the federated data resources are relevant to the experimenters that might be seeking for an experimental infrastructure to assess their innovations. On the other hand, the identification of the challenges met during the testbed integration process, as well as the mitigation strategies that have been implemented to face them, are of interest for testbed providers that can be considering to join the federation.

Cloud of Things (CoT) is increasingly viewed as a paradigm that can satisfy the diverse requirements of emerging IoT applications. The potential of CoT is not yet realised due to challenges in sharing and reusing IoT physical resources across multiple applications. Existing approaches provide smallscale and hardware-dependent shared access to IoT resources. This paper considers using market mechanisms to commoditise CoT resources as the approach to enable shared access to CoT resources and to improve their reusability. In order to achieve this, the requirements for trading CoT resources are discussed to conceptualise the proposed approach. A generic description model for CoT resource is introduced to quantify the value of CoT resources. In this paper, a marketplace architecture for trading CoT resources referred to as AMACoT is proposed. By formulating the trading of CoT resources as an optimisation problem, the proposed approach is experimentally validated. The evaluation measures the system performance and verifies the optimisation problem using three evolutionary algorithms. The evaluation of the optimisation algorithms demonstrates the optimality of trading CoT resources solutions in terms of resource cost, resource utilisation, provider lock-in and provider profit.
