Data for modeling nitrogen dioxide concentration levels across Germany

Abstract: The described secondary data provide a comprehensive basis for modeling conditional mean nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ) concentration levels across Germany. Besides concentration levels, meta data on monitoring sites from the German air quality monitoring network, geocoordinates, altitudes, and data on land use and road lengths for different types of roads are provided. The data are based on a grid of resolution 1 × 1 km, which is also included. The underlying raw data are open access and were… Show more

“…The models are based on additive regression smoothers of spatial and structural explanatory variables and reflect the intra-urban variability (Jerrett et al 2005 ) of background concentrations for the year 2019 ( B. pendula ) and 2020 ( P. lanceolata , D. glomerata ) at the different locations. The data used to fit the models were compiled following the description in Fritsch and Behm ( 2021b ). We employed the most recent versions of the datasets containing the pollutant concentrations measured at the sites of the German air quality monitoring network in 2019 and 2020 (EEA 2022 ), land use based on the CORINE land cover classes (EEA 2020 ), topography (BKG 2021a ), German administrative regions and population density (BKG 2021b ), and the road traffic network (EuroGeographics 2022 ).…”
