“…2). The structure of the telium clearly indicates that the rust is congeneric with Dasturella,, recently described by Mundkur and Kheswalla (1943). In a young telium the teliospore mother-cells are grouped deep within the mesophyll tissue.…”

“…The telia are developed either in place of the uredia, in which case the marginal row of paraphyses is retained, or separately, in which case they are aparaphysate. The genus is characterized by subepidermal paraphysate uredia, the paraphyses being cylindric and in- In the description of the genus Dastmrella, Mundkur and Kheswalla (1943) Uredia hypophyllous, subepidermal, erumpent, pulverulent, with marginal, incurved paraphyses; urediospores ovate-ellipsoid, cinnaimon-yellow, without distiniet germ pores, 20-26 x 15-20 p; epispore about 1 p thick, minutely and densely verruculose, with incdistinct germ pores. These mother cells abstriet in basipetal succession chains of one-celled teliospores which adhere permanently both vertically and laterally to form a compact columnar crust.…”

“…Species of Dasturella and Kweilingia occur on grasses (bamboos) and have unicellular teliospores arranged in strictly vertical chains which are laterally united into erumpent pulvinate telia. The vertical chains are well illustrated for Dasturella by Mundkur and Kheswalla (1943) and for Kweilingia by Berndt (1997) and Vánky (2002). Although described originally as a rust, Kweilingia had been placed in Auriculariales (Thirumalachar and Narasimhan 1951) and in Ustilaginales Vánky 1987).…”

“…Cummins (in Thirumalachar 1946) confirmed that this rust was identical to that seen by him on the specimen from Senegal and named Phakopsora grewiae. However, Thirumalachar considered that the teliospores developed in chains from the base of the telium and, because of this and the erumpent telia, he concluded that the fungus was placed better in the genus Dasturella Mundkur & Kheswalla (1943) Cummins (1945) had validly published the name of the telial stage and he thus used 'Phakopsora grewiae Cummins' as the basionym for his new combination. As noted above, there is no 'Phakopsora grewiae Cummins' and, similarly No further names have been given to the telial rust commonly known as Phakopsora grewiae or Dasturella grewiae and, as this survey shows, all names so far proposed apply only to the uredinial state.…”
