“…This sleep apnea syndrome in infants has been related to an immaturity of respiratory control mechanisms. Since the control of sucking and swallowing is closely linked to the respiratory control center in the medulla oblongata [8,10] it seemed to be of interest to study the coordination of these funcuons in infants during feeding. This idea was supported by the repeated observation reported by nurses, that several of the infants with sleep apneas had cyanotic attacks during bottle feeding.…”
