Dark matter decaying in the late Universe can relieve the H0 tension

Abstract: We study the cosmological effects of two-body dark matter decays where the products of the decay include a massless and a massive particle. We show that if the massive daughter particle is slightly warm it is possible to relieve the tension between distance ladder measurements of the present day Hubble parameter with measurements from the cosmic microwave background.

“…The dependence of V 6 appears through a FS in Eq. (13). We show the result of mapping 0.3Mpc < λ FS < 0.5Mpc to (m DM , V 6 ) plane in Fig 2 as the space between the two red solid and dotdashed lines.…”

“…where n DM is the number density of the dark matter, s SM is the entropy density of the SM sector, and we used the values, Ω DM,0 = 0.24, H 0 = 70km/sec/Mpc [13] and s SM,0 2.945 × 10 −11 eV 3 (entropy density today). Using the approximation 2n φ 6 = n DM at production time, one obtains…”
