Dark adaptation in patients with Best vitelliform macular dystrophy.

Abstract: Psychophysical dark adaptation studies were performed in six patients with Best vitelliform macular dystrophy (BVMD) using a Goldmann-Weekers dark adaptometer. Prebleach thresholds were determined before obtaining a postbleach full recovery curve.

“…The first pedigree was reported by Best in 1905 [3]. Phenotypic classification according to Gass includes five stages [2,12]: (1) previtelliform, (2) vitelliform, (3) pseudohypopyon, (4) vitelliruptive (scrambled-egg), and (5) late/ fibrotic stage. A classification by Mohler and Fine [26] is contradictory to that of Gass [12], as Mohler classified the initial disruption of the yellowish lesion as the vitelliruptive stage.…”
