Abstract: Development of the midgut visceral muscle of Drosophila crucially depends on Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (Alk) receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) signalling, which is needed to specify founder cells (FCs) in the circular visceral mesoderm (VM).
