Damage Prediction of CPVC Based on Energy Method at Different Temperatures

Abstract: The Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride pipes used for the supply of cold and hot water are designed and manufactured for a 50 years predictive life, but defects and harmfulness may occur during the transport process, storage and operation of tubes that significantly affect these forecasts. This work deals with the study of the mechanical behavior of Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CVPC) specimens subjected to tensile tests under the effect of temperature. Moreover, a study of damage evolution by the ultimate energ… Show more

“…Damage of structure is a modification phenomenon of its geometry and mechanical characteristics, produced by chemical or physical attack, leading to reduced strength and, in turn, structural failure [27]. The theory of damage was initially proposed by Rabotnov and Kachanov [28]: they said, the material deterioration can be considered just by the variation of the material elastic characteristic description.…”

“…According to the results obtained, it can be seen that the uncertainties related to the applied load and to the length of the crack lead to an increase in the probability of rupture of the pipe and to a reduction in the durability of the structure. Moreover, several works on the mechanical reliability and behavior of polymers have been carried out [18][19][20][21][22][23][24] paying attention to rupture and failure of polymer structures to keep away from accidents causing production loose plus life damage of both human and material, besides saving money. Necar [25] studied the effect of temperatures ranging from -10 to 70 ° C on the mechanical properties of CPVC.…”
