Damage Identification in Timber Structures Based on Wavelet Singular Spectrum Entropy

Abstract: Vibration responses of building structure closely related to the structural health status. In this paper, wavelet singular spectrum entropy (WSSE) is proposed to evaluate the damage condition of building structure. A 1/3 scaled model of a Chinese ancient timber structure has been constructed, and three damage conditions and one restored condition of the structure are simulated. The acceleration responses for undamaged and the four simulated damaged and restored conditions are measured and analyzed by employing… Show more

“…The improvement of this approach was proposed in [ 54 ], where the authors defined two entropy measures using probability analysis for the identification and quantification of cracks in beams. Another approach was proposed in [ 55 , 56 ], where the authors determined entropy of the frequency response spectra of the tested beam- and plate-like structures. The authors of [ 57 ] developed an entropy-based index, which was determined from the difference in modal curvatures of intact and damaged beams.…”

“…They concluded that the continuous wavelet entropy algorithm had a reliable damage location ability. Li et al [ 41 ] assessed building structure damage by establishing Wavelet Singular Spectrum Entropy (WSSE). An experiment carried out using a 1/3-scale wood structure model was performed, and verified the reliability of WSSE.…”

“…They experimentally revealed that the proposed wavelet packet energy entropy based method was capable of identifying single and multiple damage in pile structures. Li et al [42] proposed a wavelet singular spectrum entropy to evaluate the damage condition of building structures, with the applicability of the proposed method numerically and experimentally verified by the damage analysis of a timber structure. In summary, the entropy based method has advantages in improving the accuracy of damage identification and shows significant applicability to damage detection in bridges, especially in curved bridges.…”
