Damage Evolution of RC Beams Under Simultaneous Reinforcement Corrosion and Sustained Load

Abstract: To accurately obtain the performance of concrete structures in coastal regions, it is necessary to correctly understand the damage evolution law of reinforced concrete (RC) members under real working conditions. In this paper, four RC beams, subjected to different levels of corrosion and sustained load, are first tested. Reinforcement corrosion coupled with sustained load increases the number and width of cracks at the soffit of beams but decreases their loading capacities. Crack width of the corroded beam und… Show more

“…However, the influence of engineering environment on concrete durability is ignored [1,2]. As a result, concrete buildings are damaged by freeze-thaw cycles, wet-dry cycles, salt ion erosion, alkali-aggregate reactions, and so on [3][4][5], which seriously affect the normal benefits and safe use of the structure. The process is gradually deteriorating from the surface to the inside, which is intuitively expressed as the mass loss and strength of the concrete [6,7].…”

“…A Brownian motion simulation for the chloride diffusivity of concrete was conducted, which was verified through two sets of experimental results. He [12] established the relationship between chloride diffusion coefficient pore structure parameters, which was characterized by low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Liu proposed a multi-phase transport model to simulate the ionic (K + , Na + , Cl − , and OH − ) transport features in concrete composites containing various shaped aggregates.…”
