Daemonorops draco Blume Induces Apoptosis Against Acute Myeloid Leukemia Cells via Regulation of the miR-216b/c-Jun

Abstract: Daemonorops draco Blume (DD), also called dragon’s blood, has been used as a traditional Korean medicine, especially for relieving pain caused by wound infection. Recently, it has been described that DD has antibacterial and analgesic effects. In this study, the underlying anticancer effect of DD associated with apoptosis was investigated in acute myeloid leukemia cell lines U937 and THP-1. DD exhibited cytotoxic effects and induced apoptosis in U937 and THP-1 cells. Moreover, DD treatment significantly reduce… Show more

“…Furthermore, the anticancer effect shown in several types of cancer cells was facilitated through CHOP-dependent apoptosis [54,59,[84][85][86][87][88][89]. The CHOP protein, which is linked to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, plays a pivotal role in initiating apoptosis in cells under sustained intracellular stress caused by the generation of ROS [54,61].To further authenticate, it was established that the administration of a reactive oxygen species (ROS) inhibitor (NAC) efficiently suppressed the generation of ROS.…”

“…Dragon's blood, also called Daemonorops draco Blume (DD), is a traditional Korean medicine used to relieve pain from wound infections. DD increased ROS generation and miR-216b expression while downregulating c-Jun [192]. Casticin has anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties that are used in traditional herbal medicine.…”
