Cloud service discovery is a new challenge which requires a dedicated framework in order to approach it. Over the past few years, several methods and frameworks have been developed for cloud service discovery but they are mostly designed for all cloud computing models in general which are not optimal. The three cloud computing models are Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS), each computing model has its own set of resources. Having one single discovery framework for all three is not very efficient and the implementation of such a framework is complex with lots of overhead.The existing frameworks for cloud service discovery are mostly semantic-based and there are a few syntax-based frameworks that are using the filter by Attribute method as their solution. This research proposes a cloud service discovery framework focusing on IaaS and PaaS cloud computing models. Our framework is using a syntax-based query engine at its core and uses Extensible Markup Language (XML) for storing cloud service information. We eventually test the framework from the user point of view with IaaS and PaaS cloud services from real cloud service providers.Such a framework could be a good solution for IaaS and PaaS since it is accurate enough for service discovery and easy to update.iv

The widespread use and increasing capabilities of mobiles devices are making them a viable platform for offering mobile services. However, the increasing resource demands of mobile services and the inherent constraints of mobile devices limit the quality and type of functionality that can be offered, preventing mobile devices from exploiting their full potential as reliable service providers. Computation offloading offers mobile devices the opportunity to transfer resourceintensive computations to more resourceful computing infrastructures. We present a framework for cloud-assisted mobile service provisioning to assist mobile devices in delivering reliable services. The framework supports dynamic offloading based on the resource status of mobile systems and current network conditions, while satisfying the user-defined energy constraints. It also enables the mobile provider to delegate the cloud infrastructure to forward the service response directly to the user when no further processing is required by the provider. Performance evaluation shows up to 6x latency improvement for computation-intensive services that do not require large data transfer. Experiments show that the operation of the cloud-assisted service provisioning framework does not pose significant overhead on mobile resources, yet it offers robust and efficient computation offloading.

Access to the full text of the published version may require a subscription. However, these services are described by mark-up languages, such as XML, that cannot be comprehended by non-specialists. Furthermore, the lack of common interfaces for related services makes discovery and consumption difficult for both users and software. The problem of service description, discovery, and consumption for the mobile cloud must be addressed to allow users to benefit from these services on mobile devices. This paper introduces our work on a mobile cloud service discovery solution, which is utilised by our mobile cloud middleware, Context Aware Mobile Cloud Services (CAMCS). The aim of our approach is to remove complex mark-up languages from the description and discovery process. By means of the Cloud Personal Assistant (CPA) assigned to each user of CAMCS, relevant mobile cloud services can be discovered and consumed easily by the end user from the mobile device. We present the discovery process, the architecture of our own service registry, and service description structure. CAMCS allows services to be used from the mobile device through a user's CPA, by means of user defined tasks.
