Da Vinci single site© surgical platform in clinical practice: a systematic review

Abstract: Da Vinci systems have proven to be valuable assets in single-site surgery, owing to the combination of robot use with the dedicated single-incision platform. However, case-control or prospective trials are warranted to draw more definitive conc lusions. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

“…by using natural orifices) or by using a single incision have highlighted the limitations of such devices. [7][8][9][10][11][12] To overcome these limitations, researchers in the past decade have explored the use of snake-like devices for surgery. The development of these devices have gone hand-in-hand with the exploration of new minimally invasive surgical paradigms.…”

“…Although it was originally approved for single site cholecystectomy, 109 the DVSSP has also been adapted for uses in other types of abdominal surgeries, and well as urology, and gynaecology. 11 According to a study conducted by Morelli et al, the principal reported advantage of the DVSSP has been the restoration of intraabdominal triangulation. The DVSSP achieves this triangulation by crossing its curved instruments midway through the entry port.…”

“…However, the robotic surgical system automatically calculates the movement of the surgeon's console with the help of specially designed curved trocars and semi-flexible instruments, making it possible for the surgeon' s right and left hand to control the rightand left-sided screen instruments even if the instrument is attached to the left and right robotic arm, respectively. 18,20 If an additional robotic arm is added through another trocar in the abdomen, a wrist-like motion of instrument can be produced in the robotic single-site surgical system allowing for a more Fig. 2.…”
