Abstract

This article presents and discusses a crucial moment of the history of Brazilian football: the 1950 Fifa World Cup. Starting at the choice of Brazil as a host and coming to the national team's defeat to Uruguay at Maracanã, it seeks to show how deeply the country became involved with football and designed his own consecration in the team's success-a consecration that it would be frustrated by the loss of the championship.
