D0-branes in black hole attractors

Abstract: Configurations of N probe D0-branes in a Calabi-Yau black hole are studied. A large degeneracy of near-horizon bound states are found which can be described as lowest Landau levels tiling the horizon of the black hole. These states preserve some of the enhanced supersymmetry of the near-horizon AdS 2 × S 2 × CY 3 attractor geometry, but not of the full asymptotically flat solution. Supersymmetric non-abelian configurations are constructed which, via the Myers effect, develop charges associated with higher-dime… Show more

“…Following Strominger et al [8,9] one can ask what is the holographically dual conformal quantum mechanics of the string theory in the near-horizon geometry of the Gutowski-Reall black holes considered here. Our superisometries should be an important input in constructing the Lagrangian for such a quantum mechanics.…”

“…As mentioned in the introduction, scaling solutions are multicentered black holes with two (or more) centers lying so close together in spacetime, that their throats have melted together in the supergravity description. These were at the core of the deconstruction of a D4-D0 black hole in [4] which might be a next step towards understanding the CFT dual of an asymptotically AdS 2 black hole ( [10], [11]). …”

“…It suggests that the horizon of the BPS black hole in the M-theory duality frame is coated with a condensate of M2-branes that wrap the cycles ∆ ab , reminiscent of the analysis of [44,45], though the details here are rather different. 5 Similarly, in the type IIB frame, it seems that D3-branes wrap the horizon.…”
