The reaction 58N i(p,3He)56Co to several discrete, low-lying states in 56Co was investigated. Angular distributions of the analyzing power as well as differential cross sections are presented at incident energies of 80, 100, and 118 MeV. Macroscopic zero-range distorted-wave Born approximation calculations are in fairly good agreement with the experimental data in this incident energy range. This has important implications for studies of inclusive reactions in which light composite particles are emitted.
