D-brane dynamics in RR deformation of NS5-branes background and tachyon cosmology

Abstract: We study D-brane dynamics in the gravity dual background of ODp theories using the effective action on the worldvolume of the brane. We explore the similarities of the system with the rolling tachyon, including the exponential decrease of pressure at late times. We also consider the case where the worldvolume theory on a D 3 -brane is coupled to gravity and construct a cosmological model. By considering the time reversal symmetric solutions, we find that we can have both closed and open universes depending on … Show more

“…The similarity between the DBI effective action for the tachyon and that of a probe D-brane near NS5-Branes, for homogeneous solutions, was recently studied by Kutasov [4]. Some other recent works on similar topics (again for the homogeneous case) include [5,6,7,8,9]. Previous works [10,11] on the generic inhomogeneous solution in the theory (1) were focused on the open string theory tachyon effective action, with runaway potential of exponential asymptotic form: V (T ) ≃ exp(−T ).…”

“…In fact, if we place a BPS Dp-brane at finite distance from a stack of NS5-branes it will experience an attractive force and will start moving towards to fivebranes. It was shown in [1] that the real time dynamics of a D-brane near a stack of NS5-branes exhibits a close connection 1 For other works considering related problems, see [2,3,4,5,6,7,8]. 2 The directions along worldvolume of the fivebranes will be denoted by x µ , µ = 0, 1, 2, .…”

“…More recently a close relationship between the geometric tachyon and the universal open string tachyon has been extensively discussed by Sen [19] (see also [20], [21]). The geometric tachyon has also played an interesting role in the inflationary models in cosmology [22][23][24][25][26][27].…”
