Czech version of Rey Auditory Verbal Learning test: Normative data

Abstract: The present study provides normative data stratified by age for the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning test Czech version (RAVLT) derived from a sample of 306 cognitively normal subjects (20-85 years). Participants met strict inclusion criteria (absence of any active or past neurological or psychiatric disorder) and performed within normal limits on other neuropsychological measures. Our analyses revealed significant relationships between most RAVLT indices and age and education. Normative data are provided not only… Show more

“…Subjects were interviewed using the following questionnaires: CDR, activities of daily living, Hachinski ischemic scale and GDS. The neuropsychological battery included the MMSE, a modified version of Free and Cued Selective Recall Reminding Test called enhanced cued recall (ECR test in the Czech‐validated version) (Grober et al, ; Topinková et al, ), auditory verbal learning test (Bezdicek et al, ; Rey, ), Rey–Osterrieth Complex Figure (ROCF) copy and reproduction after 5 min (Meyers and Meyers, ), digit span forward and backward tests, initial letter fluency—Controlled Oral Word Association Test—and the Trail‐Making Tests A and B.…”

“…All patients underwent the Mini‐Mental State Examination (MMSE) (Folstein et al., ; Stepankova et al., ) for determining global cognitive impairment, Beck Depression Inventory, Second Edition, Czech Version (BDI‐II) (Beck et al., ) for mood assessment, culturally adapted version of National Adult Reading Test/Czech Reading Test (NART/CRT) (Krámská, ) for determining premorbid level of intelligence, and a battery of neuropsychological tests designed to cover the cognitive deficit discussed above. The battery included the following: (i) Digit Span forward (DS‐F) (Wechsler, ) for sustained auditory attention, and Trail Making Test, part A (TMT‐A) (Bezdicek et al., ), and condition D from Prague Stroop Test (PST‐D) (Bezdicek et al., ) for sustained visual attention; (ii) Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB) (Dubois et al., ) for frontal dysfunction; (iii) in executive functions Controlled Oral Word Association Test (COWAT, S + K + P), and categorical verbal fluency (categorical fluency, animals + clothes + shopping) for mental flexibility (Nikolai et al., ), Trail Making Test, part B (TMT‐B) (Bezdicek et al., ) for set shifting, Stroop interference conditions W and C from PST (Bezdicek et al., ) for response inhibition, and Similarities (Sim) (Wechsler, ) for conceptualization; (iv) Digit Span backward (DS‐B) (Wechsler, ) for verbal working memory; (v) Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT) (Bezdicek et al., ) for explicit verbal memory mechanisms (learning, recall, recognition, and forgetting); and (vi) Grooved Pegboard Test (GPT) (Bezdicek et al., ; Ruff and Parker, ) and Finger Tapping Test (FTT) (Ruff and Parker, ) for psychomotor and motor speed. NART/CRT was administered only during the second wave of measurements in 2015, but not in 2017 due to its presumed stability over time.…”
