It is known that combined penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) with retinal detachment repair increases the risks of graft failure and that silicone oil 6,8 and heavy liquid are toxic to the cornea and associated with corneal decompensation and band-shaped keratopathy-performing the retinal reattachment surgery first and removing oil tamponade before corneal grafting will maximize the chances of graft survival. Autokeratoplasty can be used after KTP surgery; however, avoiding full-thickness corneal surgery prevents the distortion to surgical anatomy associated with this procedure and also prevents potential iris synechiae 9 formation both of which are associated with later graft failure.…”
