Cytotoxic Sesquiterpenoids from Ammoides atlantica Aerial Parts

Abstract: Seven new terpenoids, namely, guaiane ( 1 – 4 ), eudesmane ( 5 ), and bisabolane ( 6 ) sesquiterpenoids and a furanone ( 7 ), were isolated from the aerial parts of Ammoides atlantica , a herbaceous plant growing in Algeria, together with eight known compounds. All metabolites were characterized by their 1D and 2D NMR and HRESIMS data. A combined DFT/NMR method was applied t… Show more

“…The optical density (OD) of each well was measured with a microplate spectrophotometer (Multiskan Spectrum Thermo Electron Corporation reader, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Waltham, Massachusetts, United States) equipped with a 620 nm filter. Cell vitality was calculated as % vitality = 100 × (OD treated/OD DMSO) [ 38 ].…”

“…A dimeric guaiane-type skeleton (11) was identified in the leaves of Xylopia vielana Pierre (Annonaceae) together with different analogs [57] (Figure 5). Compound 12 was obtained from the leaves of Ammoides atlantica (Coss & Durieu) H. Wolff (Apiaceae), together with 15 new compounds [58]. The guaianolide lactone 13 was obtained from Chrysanthemum indicum L. (Asteraceae), a traditional herbal medicine in South Korea [59].…”

“…Eudesmane-type sesquiterpenoids are another important subclass of sesquiterpenoids with several examples of new structures (20)(21)(22)(23)(24)(25)(26) [37,58,[64][65][66][67][68] (Figure 6). Compounds 25 and 26 have a rare peroxide-substituted group and a γ-lactam ring.…”
