Cytotoxic Plumbagin-5-O-α-l-Rhamnopyranoside from Plumbago indica

Abstract: The chemical investigation of Plumbago indica L., Plumbaginaceae, has led to isolation and identification of one new naphthoquinone glycoside identified as plumbagin-5-O-α-l-rhamnopyranoside and seven known compounds identified as plumbagin, stigmasterol, β-sitosterol, quercetin-3-O-α-l-rhamnopyranoside, quercetin-3-O-β-d-glucopyranoside, quercetin, and kaempferol. Their structures were determined by chemical and spectral analysis. Plumbagin-5-O-α-l-rhamnopyranoside was evaluated for its cytotoxic activities a… Show more

“…LC–MS/MS analysis revealed the presence of numerous compounds that was tentatively identified for the first time in both plants such as genistein 8-C-glucoside, 3-hydroxy-3',4',5'-trimethoxyflavone, 6-ethoxy-3(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-4-methylcoumarin and luteolin. The findings of LC–MS/MS analyses also in parallel with previous reports that revealed the presence of plumbagin in both plants 6 .…”
