“…However, other studies examining the use of tiletamine-zolazepam (Ceylan et al 2007) or its combination with xylazine in sheep (Aydilek 2007) and gazelles (Yaralioglu-Gurgoze et al 2005) demonstrated an increase in MDA concentrations, similar to the results of our study. Based on the fact that MDA is one of the end products of lipid peroxidation, and is both an indicator and effector of oxidative stress (Sivaci et al 2006) our study may support the fact that oxygen free radicals are released upon administration of TZXT. Our data demonstrated that animals injected with TZXT had increased plasma SOD, GSH-Px and CAT activity.…”

“…In studies comparing inhalation agents in clinical settings regarding oxidative stress, desflurane was found to induce more lipid peroxidation in a swine model than sevofluran. 13 Sıvacı et al 11 showed that desflurane with N 2 O increased MDA levels and protein carbonyl content and decreased protein sulfhydryl consumption more than sevoflurane in laparoscopic surgery. They emphasized that postoperative complication rate might increase due to high ROS and low antioxidant activity; thus, desflurane would not be preferred in laparoscopic surgical procedures with regard to oxidative stress.…”

“…Thus, general anesthesia (i.e., volatile anesthetics) may impair immunologic defense mechanisms inducing an inflammatory reaction in the macrophages. [11][12][13] The clinical consequences of oxidative stress of ischemia and reperfusion during laparoscopic procedures have not yet been clearly elucidated. 14,15 Thus, patients with gallstones might be exposed to oxidative stress due to the chronic pattern of the disease, pneumoperitonium during laparoscopic surgery and general anesthesia with volatile anesthetics, which might have significant clinical effects especially in patients with co-morbidities.…”

“…It was shown that surgery and anesthetic agents produced cellular oxidative toxic metabolites which damaged cellular function and tissue structure (17). It is preferred to cause minimal reactive oxygen species by using volatile anesthetic agents in low flow anesthesia (18).…”
