Cytotoxic Effects of Resveratrol, Rutin and Rosmarinic Acid on ARH–77 Human (Multiple Myeloma) Cell Line

Abstract: Multiple myeloma (MM) cancers are 10% of hematological cancers. Leukemia ARH-77 is a malignancy like MM with a worse course of disease and the survival rate from it is very low. Therefore, ARH-77 is a commonly used model for antitumor agent studies. Polyphenolic compounds, such as resveratrol, rutin and rosmarinic acid, have many protective roles, but there is no comparative study about these three polyphenolic compounds on ARH-77. In the present study, we investigated the cytotoxic effects of resveratrol, rut… Show more

“…In addition, RA also showed an anti-tumor effect on 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene-induced skin carcinogenesis [ 252 ], a cytotoxic effect on ARH-77 human (multiple myeloma) cells [ 253 ], prostate cancer cells [ 254 ], and human Hep-G2 liver carcinoma cells [ 255 ], and an inhibitory effect on the metastatic properties of colorectal cancer cells [ 256 ].…”

“…From a chemical point of view, RA (molecular formula: C 18 H 16 O 8 , molecular mass: 360.3 g/mol), a phenylpropanoid, is the caffeic acid ester of 3,4-dihydroxyphenyllactic acid. [23][24][25] Rosmarinic acid contains 2 aromatic amino acids, phenylalanine and tyrosine, which are joined through an ester linkage. The caffeic acid and 3,4-dihydroxyphenyllactic acid are synthesized through 2 distinct routes of the shikimic acid biosynthesis pathway.…”

“…The antiproliferative effect of rosmarinic acid on cancer cells might vary with the variation of plant origin. The cytotoxic effect of rosmarinic acid was determined in Leukemia ARH-77 cell line by MTT assay (Canturk et al 2016). Rosmarinic acid showed cytotoxic effects at 50mM concentration.…”
