CYTOTAXONOMY OF LOBELIA L. SECTION LOBELIA. III. L. SIPHILITICA L. AND L. CARDINALIS L.

Abstract

Bowden (1959a) discussed the phylogenetic relationships of the tu7enty-one species of Lobelia L. section LOBELIA. Bowden (1959b) gave a cytotaxonomic treatment of three diverse species and seven small-flowered species and Bowden (1960) treated four narrow-leaved species and five medium-flowered species. In the present paper, the final one of this series, two largc-flowered species are considered, namely, L. siphilitica L. and L. cardi~ialis L.The materials and methods used during these investigations have been described by Bowden (1959aBowden ( , 1959b. ResultsFor each species or infraspecific taxon, the following information is recorded: (1) bibliographic reference of the correct name; (2) type spccimen and type locality; (3) geographical range; (4) additional notes on morphology;(5) 272 and n c h r o n~o s o i~~e numbers and citation of voucher specimens used for cytological study. In the citation of specimens, "Cyt. No." refers to thc cytological accession and fixation numbers. T h e slides of cytological material are deposited in permanent slide files. T h e voucher specimens are deposited in the Phanerogamic Herbarium of the Plant Research Institute (DAO).

THE PHYLOGENETIC SIGNIFICANCE OF MEIOTIC CHROMOSOME BEHAVIOR IN SOME POLYSPECIFIC TETRAPLOID LOBELIA HYBRIDS
