“…Notes: Zeugodacus tau possibly represents a cryptic species complex the extent of which is currently unclear (Baimai 2000, Kitthawee and Dujardin 2010, Kitthawee and Rungsri 2011, Dujardin and Kitthawee 2013). …”

“…In Tephritids, there is a number of studies presenting and discussing mitotic karyotypes, especially for Bactrocera (Hunwattanakul and Baimai 1994, Baimai et al 1995, 1999, 2000, Baimai 1998, 2000), Anastrepha (Cevallos and Nation 2004, Selivon et al 2005, Goday et al 2006, Selivon et al 2007) and Rhagoletis species (Bush and Boller 1977). However, useful polytene chromosome maps, so far available for five genera, represent only 11 species: one of Anastrepha ( Anastrepha ludens ) (Garcia-Martinez et al 2009), one of Ceratitis ( Ceratitis capitata ) (Zacharopoulou 1990), one of Dacus ( Dacus ciliatus ) (Drosopoulou et al 2011b) and three of Rhagoletis , namely Rhagoletis cerasi (Kounatidis et al 2008), Rhagoletis cingulata (Drosopoulou et al 2011a) and Rhagoletis completa (Drosopoulou et al 2010).…”

“…Intra‐ and interspecific sequence divergence between Z. tau from GenBank and Z. tau A also supports their close relationship. Several studies (Baimai et al ., ; Jamnongluk et al ., ; Saelee et al ., ; Kitthawee & Dujardin, ) suggest that Z. tau A is broadly associated with many plant species, in contrast to Z. tau C that is host specific to Momordica cochinchinensis . The generalist behaviour of Z. tau A (or Z. tau ) may explain its wide distribution over the Asia‐Pacific region.…”

“…Zeugodacus tau was described as a species complex in Southeast Asia (Drew & Romig, ). Subsequently, the complex species status of Z. tau in Thailand has been verified using cytogenetics (Baimai et al ., ) and molecular techniques (Jamnongluk et al ., ; Thanaphum & Thaenkham, ; Saelee et al ., ). This complex species consists of eight sibling species, named as Z. tau A, B, C, D, E, F, G and I, with Z. tau A considered as Z. tau sensu stricto .…”
