“…There were however a number of others which focused attention on the cytology or cytotaxonomy of single genera such as, for example, Rhoeo (Sax, 1931(Sax, , 1935 and later authors), Setcreasea (Richardson, 193 5), Cuthbertia (Giles, 1942), Campelia (Cheenaveraiah, 1959), Tradescantia commelinoides (Mattsson,196 3), Tradescantia micrantha (Jones & Colden, 1968), Tradescantia geniculata (Jones, Colden & Hunt, 1969). The production and examination of hybrids has been of very limited extent and has been confined entirely to those within the Tradescantia virginzana group (Anderson & Sax, 1936), between species of Setcreasea (Mehra, Faruqi & Celarier, 1961, 1963a, and of Zebrina (Mattsson, 1965). In total, then, the New World genera have been subjected to a very incomplete survey of chromosome phenotypes whilst estimates of relative chromosome homology have been made in three genera only.…”

“…Zebrina, Separotheca, Setcreasea, Weldenia We have examined samples of each genus with the exception of Separotheca. Setcreasea has been subject to considerable attention by Mehra, Faruqi & Celarier (1961, 1963a, who have included interspecific hybrids in their studies. Diploids, tetraploids and hexaploids have been reported with a basic number of x = 6 (Darlington, 1929;Richardson, 1935;Anderson & Sax, 1936;Celarier, 1955;etc.).…”
