Cytogenetic studies on an epithelial cell line derived from poorly differentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Abstract: An epithelial cell line, CNE-2, has been recently established from a poorly differentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and it represents the first of its kind. Using chromosome banding techniques, cytogenetic analysis of the cell line was carried out. It was demonstrated that the chromosome numbers of the CNE-2 cells varied from 87 to 107 and the modal number was 104-103. All cells contained a series of structurally abnormal chromosomes, and most of them were either consistent or frequently found. Among these ch… Show more

“…Nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell lines C666-1 (13), CNE2 (14), HNE1 (15), and HONE1 (15) were obtained from nasopharyngeal carcinoma AoE Cell Line Repository and were propagated in RPMI-1640 (for C666-1) or Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM; for other nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells) supplemented with 10% (v/v) FBS (Life Technologies) and 50 U/mL penicillin-streptomycin (Life Technologies). No authentication was carried out by the authors.…”

“…In our study, we have adopted the macroarray cDNA-profiling approach to acquire the identities of the set of genes that might be modulated by 4HPR. Using a human epithelial cell line (CNE3) established from a poorly differentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma, 13 we identified more than 20 genes whose expressions were downregulated in the presence of 4HPR, and only one gene, the growth arrest and DNA-damage inducible gene (gadd153) was upregulated. gadd153 encodes a 28 kDa protein that belongs to the C/EBP family of transcription factors.…”
