The present work intends to clarify the phylogenetic relationships among the species of Paspalum L. belonging to the informal groups Notata/Linearia and Dilatata, and to raise some preliminary hypotheses on the phylogeny of the genus as a whole. A combined dataset including morphological and molecular characters was used to analyze 28 species of Paspalum plus some representatives of related genera of the tribe Paniceae. Analyses were performed using both parsimony and maximum likelihood. The monophyly of Paspalum is not supported nor contradicted. The circumscription of informal groups of Paspalum is discussed, as well as the cladistic treatment of allopolyploid taxa, especially those comprising the Dilatata group. The relationships of members of the Dilatata with their putative progenitors is confirmed, but the monophyly of the group as a whole is not. A close relationship between P. dilatatum Poir. and P. lividum Trin. ex Schltdl. is shown. Our analysis is consistent with the monophyly of a group comprising Notata+Linearia, with a monophyletic Notata group nested within it. The delimitation of the core Notata is proposed by including P. conduplicatum Canto-Dorow, Valls and Longhi-Wagner, P. notatum Flüggé, P. minus E. Fourn., P. pumilum Nees and P. subciliatum Chase.

RESUMOOs gêneros Paspalum e Axonopus encontram-se entre as principais gramíneas de estação quente utilizadas para gramados. A propagação via sementes contribui para diminuir o custo de implantação, além de manter as características exatas do genótipo da planta mãe, por se tratar de espécies apomíticas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o potencial de produção de sementes de dezessete acessos de gramíneas das espécies Paspalum notatum, P. lepton, P. lividum e Axonopus parodii. O experimento foi conduzido no município de Capão do Leão, Rio Grande do Sul, em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. As variáveis avaliadas foram: número de inflorescências por área, número de flósculos por inflorescência e potencial de produção de sementes (PPS). Para mensurar o potencial de produção de sementes dos acessos propõe-se a equação: PPS = nº de flósculos por inflorescência x nº de inflorescências por m 2 . Houve efeito de ano, acesso e interação entre anos e acessos para número de inflorescências por área e potencial de produção de sementes. Para a variável número de flósculos por inflorescência, não houve efeito de ano. A produção potencial da safra 2013/2014 variou de 19152,00 a 135062,70 sementes m -², destacando-se o acesso PN 09 da espécie P. notatum e na safra 2014/2015 a produção potencial variou de 9973,75 a 81536,75 sementes m -², destacando-se o acesso PN 11 da espécie P. notatum. Os acessos PN 11, PN 09, PN 10 e AP 01 estiveram no terço superior no ranking de produtividade potencial nas duas safras, e a grama-batatais no terço inferior. Existe interação genótipo-ambiente para todas as características avaliadas. Entretanto, existem acessos que apresentam produção potencial de sementes consistentemente superior à testemunha grama-batatais, tendo maior potencial para a exploração na implantação de gramados por sementes. The seed propagation contributes to the decrease of the cost of establishment, besides maintaining the exact characteristics of the mother plant genotype, because they are apomictic species. The objective of this work was to evaluate the seed production potential of seventeen grass accesses of the species Paspalum notatum, P. lepton, P. lividum and Axonopus parodii. This study had the objective of assessing the genetic divergence in giant missionary grass (Axonopus jesuiticus x A. scoparius) germplasm based on morphological and agronomic traits. Five accessions were evaluated in the field: V14337, V14403, V14404, V14405 and V14406. Three contrasting groups were formed using the UPGMA clustering method: V14337 and V14404 formed one group, V14403 and V14405 formed another, and V14406 was isolated from the other accessions. The most striking traits for the identification of the accessions were the height of the plant and the change color of the leaf. Only V14406 accession had purplish green leaves. The other four accessions differed with regards to plant height and dry matter production, with superiority of V14337 and V14404 accessions. The high similarity, as assessed by the mean Euclidean distance, suggests that V14337 and V14404 share the same genotype. The genotypic variability among accessions indicates their potential use in breeding programs.
