Cytochrome P450 1B1 Is Critical for Neointimal Growth in Wire‐Injured Carotid Artery of Male Mice

Abstract: BackgroundWe have reported that cytochrome P450 1B1 (CYP1B1), expressed in cardiovascular tissues, contributes to angiotensin II–induced vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) migration and proliferation and development of hypertension in various experimental animal models via generation of reactive oxygen species. This study was conducted to determine the contribution of CYP1B1 to platelet‐derived growth factor‐BB–induced VSMC migration and proliferation in vitro and to neointimal growth in vivo. Methods and Resul… Show more

“…CYP1B1 is upregulated by AhR activation and is critical for neointimal growth in vascular injury [ 43 ]. We investigated whether it plays a role in PM 2.5 -induced VSMC migration and OPN expression.…”

“…However, the promoter of OPN has no AhR response element [ 26 ]. CYP1B1, transcriptionally inducible by AhR activation, is expressed in cardiovascular tissues and contributes to the development of hypertension and neointimal growth caused by vascular injury [ 43 , 59 ]. In the present study, we reported that CYP1B1 was involved in PM 2.5 -induced VSMC migration and OPN expression.…”

“…Frozen carotid arteries were cut into 10-µm-thick sections using a cryostat (model CM3050S; Leica Microsystems, Buffalo Grove, USA). Three sections of every injured artery, equally spaced throughout the injured segment (at 250 μm intervals), were stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) to evaluate neointima formation, and the results were averaged for each mouse [ 23 ].…”
