Cystic lymphangioma of the pancreas

Abstract: SummaryCystic lymphangioma of the pancreas is a rare condition. A 14-year-old girl presented with a cystic abdominal mass and abdominal pain. She was initially treated by biopsy and cyst drainage, and subsequently with partial excision of the cystic mass. The mass, which was a cystic lymphangioma involving the pancreas, recurred after each operation. Persisting symptoms led to a pylorus-preserving pancreatectomy and hepaticojejunostomy. “…A complete surgical excision is curative [6,8,15] , with incomplete excision being the only reason for recurrent disease [7] . Depending on the tumour location and size, complete excision may involve a simple marginal tumorectomy [10] or may require larger pancreatic resections with anastomoses.…”

“…2 Lesions involving the soft tissues of the neck and the axilla account for at least 95% of all lymphangiomas, with abdominal lymphangiomas, which mainly occur in the mesentery and retroperitoneum, accounting for less than 1%. 1,3,4 Pancreatic lymphangiomas are extremely rare, but are more common in women than men and have been reported in all age groups. 5 The largest lymphangioma of the pancreas reported to date measured 32 cm.…”

“…1 The radiologic imaging of pancreatic lymphangioma commonly shows a multilocular cystic mass caused by dilated lymphatic channels divided by thin septa. Herein, we present a case of cystic lymphangioma of the pancreas with congenital intrahepatic duct dilatation and choledochal cyst.…”
