Cystein‐serine‐rich nuclear protein 1, Axud1/Csrnp1, is essential for cephalic neural progenitor proliferation and survival in zebrafish

Abstract: The CSRNP (cystein-serine-rich nuclear protein) family has been conserved from Drosophila to human. Although knockout mice for each of the mammalian proteins have been generated, their function during vertebrate development has remained elusive. As an alternative to obtain insights on CSRNP's role in development, we have analysed the expression pattern and function of one member of this family, axud1, during zebrafish development. Our expression analysis indicates that axud1 is expressed from cleavage to larva… Show more

“…Axud1 has been shown to play important roles in several developmental systems, acting as a tumor suppressor in imaginal disc cells in Drosophila (Glavic et al, 2009) and in cell cycle control in the brain of zebrafish embryos(Feijoo et al, 2009). The finding that Axud knockout mice have craniofacial defects suggested a possible role for this transcription factor in neural crest development(Schmahl et al, 2007).…”

“…Immunohistochemetry was essentially preformed as previously described [42]. Briefly, larvae were fixed for 1hr in 4% paraformaldehyde/phosphate buffered saline (PBS), then rinsed with PBS-Tween, dehydrated in 100% methanol and stored at -20°C until processed.…”

“…21 Overexpression, as shown in the 16°C storage group, has been reported to halt cell cycle progression at mitosis. 36 Its function is essential for normal development of the brain, 37 and it is a known negative regulator of the Wnt pathway. 38 The expression of TRIB1 increased 7.5-fold in cells stored at 16°C compared to control cultures.…”
