We perform a model independent analysis so as to constrain the leptoquark (LQ) models from negative searches for µ → eγ, µ → 3e decays (and analogous processes in the τ sector), and coherent µ − e conversion in nuclei. We considerably improve some constraints obtained by analyses known in the literature, analyses which we show have by far underestimated the LQ contributions to the µ → 3e. In particular we find that the coherent µ − e conversion in nuclei mediated by the photon-conversion mechanism and the µ → 3e decay are golden plates where the flavor changing leptoquark couplings, involving the second and third quark generations, can be strongly constrained. This is due to the fact that these processes get the enhancements by large log(m 2 q /m 2 LQ ) terms which are induced by the so-called "photon-penguin" diagrams. These enhancements, which produce a mild GIM suppression in the amplitudes, have not been taken into account in the previous analyses. We show that the µ → eγ decay can set weaker constraints on the LQ models and this is because its amplitude is strongly GIM suppressed by the terms of order O(m 2 q /m 2 LQ ). We also present the results for the corresponding constraints in the τ sector. Finally the prospects of the future muon experiments for the improvement of the present bounds are analyzed and discussed.

Theoretical and phenomenological implications of R-parity violation in supersymmetric theories are discussed in the context of particle physics and cosmology. Fundamental aspects include the relation with continuous and discrete symmetries and the various allowed patterns of R-parity breaking. Recent developments on the generation of neutrino masses and mixings within different scenarios of R-parity violation are discussed. The possible contribution of Rparity-violating Yukawa couplings in processes involving virtual supersymmetric particles and the resulting constraints are reviewed. Finally, direct production of supersymmetric particles and their decays in the presence of R-parity-violating couplings is discussed together with a survey of existing constraints from collider experiments.To be submitted to Physics Reports

Quark- and gluon-jet emission from primordial black holes. II. The emission over the black-hole lifetime

The emission produced over the lifetime of black holes with masses less than M , --4-6X 1014 g is investigated by convolving the Hawking emission formulas with a Monte Carlo QCD jet code. Such emission may be astrophysically important if, for example, holes form from initial density perturbations in the early Universe. The quark and gluon decay products contribute significantly to the M , emission and dominate the lifetime emission from holes with initial masses less than about 1014 g. The M, emission shows little sensitivity to the uncertainties in particle-physics models around 100-300 MeV and above 100 GeV. A more precise determination of the mass of a primordial black hole which just expires today is also given as a function of the cosmological matter density and Hubble constant.
