Cyclodextrins Modified/Coated Metal–Organic Frameworks

Abstract: Recent progress about a novel organic–inorganic hybrid materials, namely cyclodextrins (CDs) modified/coated metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) is summarized by using a special categorization method focusing on the interactions between CDs and MOFs moieties, such as ligand–metal cations interactions, supramolecular interactions including host–guest interactions and hydrogen bonding, as well as covalent bonds. This review mainly focuses on the interactions between CDs and MOFs and the strategy of combining them to… Show more

“…CyDs can form NPs by self-assembly [ 9 , 12 ], but these NPs often have low physical stability and low applicability as drug delivery systems [ 13 ]. Other families of CyD-based NPs were developed: hybrid NPs with an inorganic core [ 14 ], supramolecular systems and polymeric CyDs [ 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 ].…”

“…For example, CD-pillar[n]arene hybrid macrocyclic system could further take advantage of both hosts to absorb and remove different favorite organic pollutants from water and wastewater. 52 Additionally, chiral characteristics could also transfer from CD to pillar[n]arene derivatives modified with smaller functional groups to achieve induced chirality or make the integrated hybrid system have particular performance in catalyzing accommodated substrates. 28,53 Currently, the area of CD-pillar[n]arene hybrid macrocyclic system is still under development and has some scientific and technical issues.…”

“…(4) Concerning the expansion of the application elds, more functional groups could be introduced into the hybrid composites via either the modication of pillararene derivatives or the decoration of the outer surface of graphene materials. The introduction of various functional moieties 40,41 could allow pillararene-functionalised graphene materials to, for example, have better water dispersity and solubility, which promote the materials to have better biocompatibility and lower cytotoxicity, leading to the expansion of application to more aspects of biomedicines such as diagnosis and combined therapy. 42…”
