Dynamic and adaptive materials are powerful constructs in macromolecular and polymer chemistry with a wide array of applications in drug delivery, bioactive systems, and self‐healing materials. Very often, dynamic materials are based on carefully tailored cyclodextrin host–guest interactions. The precise incorporation of these host and guest moieties into macromolecular building blocks allows the formation of complex macromolecular structures with predefined functions. Thus, dynamic materials with extraordinary adaptive property profiles—responsive to thermal, chemical, and photonic fields—become accessible. This Review explores the hierarchical formation of dynamic materials and complex macromolecular structures from the molecular via the macromolecular to the colloidal and macroscopic level, with a specific emphasis on the functionality and responsiveness of the assemblies, specifically in biological contexts.

We have developed a kind of gold nanoparticle (AuNP) in which polyethylene glycol (PEG) and poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) are attached on the surface of a gold nanocrystal through the host-guest inclusion between adamantane groups (ADA) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). The resulting AuNPs become amphiphilic in water above body temperature and self-assemble into vesicles. It is found that these vesicles can load doxorubicin (Dox) effectively. With a decrease in temperature, the PNIPAM shifted from hydrophobic to hydrophilic, causing Au vesicles to disassemble into stable small AuNPs, triggering the release of Dox. These hybrid vesicles, combining polymer functionality with the intriguing properties of AuNPs, can first release free Dox and AuNP/Dox at a site of a tumor through the application of either simple ice packs or deeply penetrating cryoprobes, then the AuNP/Dox can be taken in by tumor cells and destroy them like miniature munitions. Furthermore, these vesicles showed other therapeutic possibilities due to the presence of gold. We believe that the development of such multi-functional vesicles will provide new and therapeutically useful means for medical applications.

Inorganic-organic hybrid structures based on metal-complexes particularly, octahedral bis-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine metal complexes provide an advantages of increased symmetry and in the case of ruthenium(III)/ruthenium(II) complexation an entrance to a directed complexation Method. The Ru (II) terpyridine methane thiolate protected gold nanoparticle was synthesized through covalent bonding of Ru terpyridine methane thiolates over gold nanoparticles surfaces. The ligand terpyridine methanethiolate was synthesized successfully in good percentage of yield. The structures were confirmed and characterized by different physical, analytical, spectral data like FTIR, UV, SEM and Cyclic voltammetry. All the data are shown the expected results.
