Cyclodextrin-Based Supramolecular Hydrogel as a Selective Chiral Adsorption/Separation Platform for Tryptophan Enantiomers

Abstract: A supramolecular hydrogel based on noncovalent interactions has the advantages of specific recognition, stimuli responsiveness, and environmental friendliness. The construction of supramolecular hydrogels with chiral recognition properties by simple methods has received tremendous attention. In this paper, a supramolecular hybrid hydrogel was constructed by combining Cu 2+ -modified β-cyclodextrin (Cu-β-CD) with inorganic clay through electrostatic interactions. Significantly, the resultant hybrid hydrogel cou… Show more

“…Under the conditions of adsorption at specific temperatures, theoretical analysis and calculation were carried out by thermodynamic correlation formula (10-13) respectively. Table 4 shows that the adsorption of P-(CM-β-CD/HPCS/KHA/AC) hydrogel at TCH is an exothermic process, in which the degree of chaos increases and the whole adsorption is a process of entropy increase [23].…”

“…An alternative approach for biomolecule detection involves host–guest interactions. For example, Yan et al employed supramolecular β -cyclodextrin-based hydrogels for chiral amino acid separation [ 209 ]. Positively charged copper-modified β -cyclodextrin was combined with negatively charged laponite clay in water to form a supramolecular hydrogel via electrostatic interactions.…”

“…22 Cyclodextrins (CDs), as a kind of supramolecular host molecule, reveal natural chirality, host-guest interaction and excellent water-solubility, and could include various bioactive compounds in their hydrophobic cavities to form stable host-guest inclusion complexes. [23][24][25] Therefore, CD hybrid inorganic nanocomposites have been exploited and have attracted widespread attention in constructing electrochemical chiral sensors and discrimination platforms for bioactive molecules. [26][27][28] Three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide (3D-rGO) has excellent properties, such as a high electrical conductivity, large specific surface area, high mechanical strength and good chemical stability, and has been widely used as an electrode modification material for the construction of highly sensitive electrochemical sensors.…”
