Cyclicities in Triassic platform carbonates: synchronizing radio‐isotopic and orbital clocks

Abstract: Sedimentary cycles recorded in young sediments are often attributed to fluctuations of the Earth's climate on a 104−106‐year scale which in turn is governed by periodic variations in solar insolation linked to orbital (Milankovitch) parameters. “…The number of cycles in the platform interior facies of the Esino Limestone is between 700-800 (all thicker cycles) and c.2500 (all thinner cycles). Considering the thickness of the Esino Limestone and the number of cycles (even if considering no missed beats), the average duration of the cycles results sub-Milankovian, in agreement with values reported for other Triassic platforms in the Tethyan realm (Schwarzacher & Haas, 1986, Reijmer et al, 1991Mundil et al, 2003;).
