“…All possessed binding activity, levels varying from 267 to 12,037 fmol per mg of cytosol protein (mean value of 4248 fmol mg-'). These results fall within the range of human breast cancer cytosols reported by Miller et al (1985) and are higher than those reported for a series of colorectal cancers using the same methodology. The mean dissociation constant of 2.4 X 10-8 M is also in keeping with data from previous work on human breast cancers (Miller et al, 1985) and work reported for binding proteins in other tumours .…”

“…This may explain why the R/protein values differ in different parts of the same tumour (Miller et al, 1985). Since the amount of C subunit reflects the content of a cell protein, and the ratio between R and C subunits has biological significance, the R/C ratio may be a better parameter than R/protein for clinical purposes.…”

“…The ratio between the concentrations of oestrogen receptor and R has appeared useful to predict the response to endocrine therapy. Both for human mammary carcinoma (Kvinnsland et al, 1983;Miller et al, 1985;Watson et al, 1987) and DMBA-induced mammary carcinoma in the rat (Bodwin et al, 1980) this parameter was more reliable than steroid receptor levels alone. Recently, tumour relapse rate and patient survival was found to correlate with the concentration of R subunits in tissue homogenates from human primary mammary tumours (Miller et al, 1990).…”

“…Premenopausal patients with regular menstrual periods (4 women) were treated by oophorectomy. The Cyclic AMP binding was determined as described previously (Miller et al, 1985) and the activity expressed on the basis of cytosol protein which has been reported to reduce intra-tumoral variation (Senbanjo et al, 1986). Concentration of oestrogen receptors was determined (in a portion of tumour adjacent to that taken for cAMP BP) by saturation analysis (Hawkins et al, 1981).…”
