Cyber Security vs. Digital Innovation: A Trade-off for Logistics Companies?

Abstract: Digital innovations are essential for companies in the 21 st century. However, due to their reliance on (new) technologies, they are associated with cybersecurity risks. As the reduction of these can negatively affect an organization's innovation capability, a trade-off might result. This trade-off has, to our knowledge, not yet been sufficiently researched. Our paper contributes to closing this research gap using semi-structured interviews with 14 digital innovation and cybersecurity experts in the German log… Show more

“…For example, organizations are confronted with the demands of the digital landscape, which drives the need for innovation and gaining a competitive edge. At the same time, they must protect and secure their environment, which is further exposed by technical deployment (Raza et al 2018;Rothrock et al 2018;Carayannis et al 2019;AlGhamdi et al 2020;Heierhoff & Hoffmann, 2022). Thus, further understanding and guidance is needed to support organizations in implementing successful ISG approaches in changing digital environments.…”

“…A central argument of this paper is that implementing DSG inherently unfolds an area of paradoxical tensions, i.e., digital organizations need to innovate and gain a competitive edge, while they simultaneously need to protect and secure their environment (Raza et al 2018;Carayannis et al 2019;AlGhamdi et al 2020;Heierhoff & Hoffmann 2022). Although both demands (security in a digital era i.e.…”
