Cyber-Archaeometry: Novel Research and Learning Subject Overview

Abstract: The cyber archaeometry concerns a new virtual ontology in the environment of cultural heritage and archaeology. The present study concerns a first pivot endeavor of a virtual polarized light microscopy (VPLM) for archaeometric learning, made from digital tools, tackling the theory of mineral identification in archaeological materials, an important aspect in characterization, provenance, and ancient technology. This endeavor introduces the range of IT computational methods and instrumentation techniques availab… Show more

“…That all students considered the virtual tour and the information posted along the route impressive is encouraging for future integrated implementation of similar approaches. Their desire to learn more about virtual reality, 3D modelling and in general the importance of applied sciences and IT to cultural heritage issues has been verified earlier with a cyber-archaeometry project [6].…”

“…E-learning in schools of every level has been introduced and implemented in a fast and compulsory manner. Yet the need for virtual distance and e-Learning studies has been a hot debate and the education reformation is subjected to a definite and rather permanent transitional turn in the third millennium AD [5,6].…”

“…Raman spectroscopy also confirms its role as an ideal method for the examination of gemstones and pigments. Thanks to the ability of microscopically examining small details, Raman can distinguish not only real versus artificial materials, but can also provide basic information on their origin [14,15]. Its strength is the possibility in obtaining in a very short time the identification of a mineral species or even gemstone variety [16].…”

“…However, for the closed partial differential feature, the starting point and the end point are at the same position, but the detour direction of the partial differential feature can still be specified at this time. By convention, the detour direction is counterclockwise, so C will point to the interior of the closed partial differential feature, so when the curve is convex, the curvature is positive; otherwise, the curvature is concave, and the curvature is negative [11][12][13][14].…”
