“…16 Evidence of a protective effect is largely limited to SSRIs. 139,140 Our study found no clear evidence of a difference in myocardial risk between antidepressant classes, although there was some indication of an increased risk associated with SSRIs, mostly confined to fluoxetine and occurring during the first 28 days of use.…”

“…However, a recent population-based case control analysis by Schlienger et al indicated that current use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may be associated with a slight reduction in risk of an acute cardiac event (14).…”

“…Several observational studies have also suggested that, in patients with acute coronary syndromes, treatment with an SSRI is associated with improved cardiovascular outcomes. 12,13 Based on converging lines of evidence, we can be confident that SSRIs alter platelet function and that some patients will bleed as a result. How should we use this information?…”
