Current treatments for non-small cell lung cancer

Abstract: Despite improved methods of diagnosis and the development of different treatments, mortality from lung cancer remains surprisingly high. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for the large majority of lung cancer cases. Therefore, it is important to review current methods of diagnosis and treatments of NSCLC in the clinic and preclinic. In this review, we describe, as a guide for clinicians, current diagnostic methods and therapies (such as chemotherapy, chemoradiotherapy, targeted therapy, antiangiogeni… Show more

“…Previous abundant studies have attempted to seek combination therapies with chemotherapy for lung cancer treatment [18][19][20][21][22]. They found that cancer treatment efficacy was enhanced by the combination of chemotherapy drugs with targeted drugs, Chinese medicine drugs or plant compounds [19][20][21][22].…”

“…34 Notably, 5-FU is not listed among the list of current treatments for patients with NSCLC. 72 Although 5-FU is not currently used, our results demonstrate that the 5-FU modification is necessary for miR-129 to enter cells without the aid of a delivery vehicle. Because the inhibitory effect of 5-FU-miR-129 can be achieved under vehicle-free conditions, we believe that this feature can overcome a key obstacle of RNA-based therapeutics.…”

“…One of the most common types of human cancer is non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) which is characterized by invasion, migration, rapid growth, and reoccurrence ( Guo et al, 2022 ). In vitro studies on NSCLC showed that treatment with calotropin promoted apoptosis by increasing the expression of pro-apoptosis genes: caspase-3, caspase-8 , and apoptotic protease activating factor-1 (Apaf-1) and downregulated expression of anti-apoptotic proteins: p53, B-cell lymphoma (Bcl 2) and Bclw ( Paesmans et al, 2015 ).…”
